WE THE PEOPLE
Term Limits
As your Congresswoman, I believe the position of US Representative is one of public service and should not be treated as a career. I support term limits, which would keep public servants from becoming career politicians at the expense of the taxpayer. It is one of those issues I have thought long and hard about because I believe the Founders penned the framework of our historical documents with careful deliberation, but I also believe they left leeway for improvement. I am sure of this…that our Founders would seek for limited control of government, but also would seek for the best interest of the people and nation. If term limits are a good thing to protect the nation from the Kennedy and Pelosi dynasties, I feel they would be in favor of them.
There are more than enough people in the Continental United States to supply a sufficient turnover in the federal government. This provides for fresh perspectives, integrity, and servant-hood from the elected officials. Sadly, some politicians enter the political realm with an agenda to fund their pursuit of life, liberty and happiness at the expense of the taxpayer. It is true that the constituents can remove an official through the vote, but many times this is not the case as the career politicians have manipulated the integrity of the system.
I support two – six year terms for Senators; and four – two year terms for Representatives. If this is not passed through Congress, I pledge to term limit myself in the House of Representatives for the good of this country.
